Representations of Portugal (Madeira) in Germany
Since Madeira belongs to Portugal, its embassy is responsible. The embassy of the Portuguese Republic in Berlin is located in the immediate vicinity of the Springer high-rise building and the Charly checkpoint.
The building in which the embassy is located is a rather unadorned functional building. The building is not owned by Portugal, only a number of office space has been rented here. The Portuguese embassy moved here in 1999 after moving from Bonn to Berlin. The embassy has the following departments:
– Diplomatic Department
– Defense
Attaché
– Press Office – Cultural Department
– Education
– Commercial Department

Madeira: Travel Medicine and Warnings
Infectious Diseases
With the exception of leishmaniasis, there are no infectious diseases to be expected in Madeira that do not also occur in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. However, you should be particularly careful:
- Malaria, there is no risk of malaria on the island
- Hepatitis A and B, an infection with hepatitis B, is only possible in people who can come into contact with blood or those who are looking for sexual contact.
- Leishmaniasis Disease
- tetanus
Vaccination recommendations When traveling to Madeira, the same vaccinations are recommended as in Germany, Austria and Switzerland:
- Cholera, but only among travelers who can come into contact with polluted water or contaminated food
- Diphtheria, a vaccination against diphtheria, should always exist, even in the home country
- Hepatitis A and B, vaccination against hepatitis B, is only required for people who may come into contact with blood or who are looking for sexual contact.
- polio
- Tetanus, a vaccination against tetanus, should always exist, also in the home country
Compulsory vaccination
When entering and staying in Madeira there is a compulsory vaccination against yellow fever for all persons who enter from the yellow fever infection areas designated by the WHO.
Yellow fever vaccination for children
In most countries where a yellow fever vaccination is mandatory, this also applies to children over 1 year of age, in some countries even from 6 months. It should be noted that vaccination against yellow fever had a number of side effects, such as encephalitis. Around two thirds of those affected were children under 6 months. Therefore, children under this age are not allowed under any circumstancesbe vaccinated. But children under one year of age should also not be vaccinated if possible. If in doubt, yellow fever infection areas must then be avoided. Any vaccination against yellow fever may only be carried out in specially authorized yellow fever vaccination centers!
