In our giant testing where we have collected 11 camera phones, it is surprisingly widespread in the results. As soon as we challenge the mobiles we see both that the development has progressed and that the difference is great between the worst and best, even among the most expensive top models.
We meet both positive surprises and disappointments when we test the best mobile cameras on the market. So it is a big difference between the pictures we get when we are testing 11 different mobile cameras. Given that mobile camera for many is such an important function so it is surprising that there is still so much difference between the best and worst. To determine which of the mobile cameras that are the very best we have assembled the 11 latest from all large and small manufacturers, and then taken a large number of images with each camera, in many different contexts. To be able to make a fair comparison we have also chosen a dozen different subjects where all the cameras have taken the same image under identical conditions so that we have been able to determine which is best. To give every camera mobile a fair chance, we have tried our way between the different scene modes. A camera may have performed best in HDR mode while another manages the same scene the best in auto or night mode. We have thus taken each camera’s best picture in context and compared.
In addition to evaluating the pictures, however, we have also evaluated such as how fast the camera from sleep mode to the finished image, if there are other features that stand out and how easy it is to find the right settings to find the image you want.
LG G Flex 2
In the past we have tested LG’s other phones with laserautofokus without being particularly convinced, but LG G Flex 2 will surprise positively on other planes. It is difficult to actually see how laser auto focus makes the difference. How it would perform without laser focus, we can only speculate, but compared to its competitors is the autofocus in the phone neither noticeably faster or more accurate.
We start with looking at the camera interface, it’s in LG G Flex 2 relatively empty with setting options. The camera menu is not full with icons and menus are all very well when you want to take a quick picture, but here, it feels almost as if städivern has gone to extremes. It feels like you stripped away so much to the competition not only clearly have more choices, but really more features. Above all I miss a more advanced mode where you can make more customizations and auto mode in this case feels a bit too simple for some images.
Distinctive when you look at the pictures from LG G Flex 2 is that it’s good at taking photos in poor lighting, even without the photo light active. In the pictures we took when it is darker it is even so that subsequently becomes unsure if perhaps photo lamp may still be active, but after checking we came each time until the camera simply takes in a lot of light, which, of course, is an advantage. For those who are taking self portraits have the LG one type of photo light even for the front camera. There is no real light, but the advantage of the light in a way that I’m surprised that not more has come on. Just selfies, turns out when we compare all camera images, often become very bad in a bit worse light. For self-portrait shows the subject in the screen when you take the picture, just like otherwise, but in LG G Flex 2, you can remove the preview to a small box on the screen while the rest of the screen shines crisply white. The result is significantly better, and even though the light may not be sufficient so long as it is full enough with the phone at arm’s length.
Pictures from LG G Flex 2 seems to be processed by phone relatively hard. This happens in all phones, but in varying degrees, and sometimes it goes a bit too far. When I take self-portraits and see my own reflection in the screen of the phone, the picture is excessively tightened, but this fixes thankfully when the image is then saved. In other pictures from LG G Flex 2 can, however, see that the colored surfaces become smeared as a, and lose some of the detail, particularly when it comes to the subject in a little bit worse light.
LG G Flex 2 hear despite the better camera phones on the market even if not the laser focus is something that really manages to convince.

Apple Iphone 6
The difference between Apple’s two mobiles when it comes to the camera is that the Iphone 6 Plus has optical image stabilization, something the Iphone 6 is missing. When we compared the two phones have the difference not been very noticeable, but insofar as there is a difference, it should in any case be Iphone 6 Plus advantage, which is why it is the one that may be involved in the test.
Considering how minimalist and minimalist camera interface of the Iphone 6 is so it is astonishing that the photos are so good that they still are. This is of course nothing new in Iphonehänseende. Apple has since the first Iphone arrived in 2007 has been extremely selective when it comes to choices in the camera app, so it has mostly been about to pull the trigger and hope for a good result.Often, it has actually been really good. Compare us with the competition so there is no one who has such a minimalist interface with so few options that Apple has. There is really only the choice to have photo lamp on or off and then just pull the trigger. The Iphone 6 is an auto HDR function which is activated when the contrasts between light and dark in the image is unusually large. The camera therefore know and adjust the settings, which is not unique, yet practical.
The pictures from the Iphone 6 is of high class and when the camera may struggle in the dark, it is rather that we see noise in the image than to the software tries to compensate by smear out all the details, something we notice the tendency of some of its competitors.Especially the front camera images when taking self-portrait gives this somewhat documentary feeling with noise, which is better than to process the images beyond recognition as some of the poorer competitors. Photo lamp with two lights in different tone makes the images get good color representation, noticeable especially when it comes to portraits which we are extra sensitive to unnatural colors.
Good detail and colors
Sony Xperia Z3
Long was Sony extremely prominent at just mobile cameras and still delivers the image sensors to several other manufacturers. In the own mobiles, however, it hasn’t happened much recently and without continuous improvement to become quickly surpassed by those who develop in faster pace. What led us to celebrate Sony’s mobile cameras has a simple interface, good autofunktioner that automatically adapts to the current subject and that the phones have been good at taking sensible images even in the dark without a photo light started.
Most of these advantages apply even latest model Z3 as we test here, but now, many by competitors advanced more than Sony made during the same period. Competition is therefore harder now and Sony Xperia Z3 which was launched last fall may struggle when the now face competitors who just come out in the stores ‘ shelves.
If you’re going to sum up the appearance of the images we get from the Z3, they are still good, but no longer the best. In the dark, the camera may have trouble concentrating when the sharper competition can handle focus without problems. The Z3 does not have a distinct selfiekamera and it shows to some extent by the sharpness doesn’t get the best of all times and it shows especially in the dark where the self-portraits even among the worse in the test.We get a lot of good photos of the Xperia Z3, partly thanks to the perfectly adapts to the particularly difficult conditions. Do you for example take a macro image or a picture in the back light so the phone can adapt to the conditions. Auto mode, however, has drawbacks. The phone itself has a sensor to 20 megapixels, but select automatic mode, images only at 8 megapixels. It certainly is sufficient for most applications today, but still feels like a disadvantage. In the manual mode, you can get pictures of 20.7 megapixels, but here, too, forcing several functions to a lower resolution. HDR function and image stabilization, for example, is only active in lower resolutions and change the resolution so disabled these features without the phone tells you clearly that. This makes it difficult to know which settings are active.
Adapts to your subject
Lower resolution in auto mode
Samsung Galaxy S6
Samsung’s comprehensive change management in the form of S6 and S6 Edge design affects not just phones but also the camera. In recent years, the flagship phones from Samsung has been a little more, a little better – nice sharpenings. Samsung Galaxy S6 is different and involves a big change and improvement, perhaps especially when it comes to the camera. The interface is clearly improved and is now more opportunities and fewer distractions. In professional mode, see manual focus but Pro mode feels still not deterrent, despite choices. You see directly in the screen how your settings affect the final image, so it is easy to experiment their way to a good result.
Also apparent is how quickly you can start the camera and take a picture, where is Samsung’s superior. No matter if your phone is in standby mode or if you use another app you can always double-click the home button to turn on the camera. That way, you always have your camera ready in under a second, always. Very valuable course when that unexpected event to be perpetuated.
We look closely at the pictures, it is clear that Samsung has improved considerably since we last compared mobile cameras and we should point out that its predecessor, the S5 is not at all had a bad camera.Already when taking the picture and see the subject in the screen, it is obvious that the expectations of the finished result will be high. S6 take good macro shots and gives detailed pictures in daylight. Both categories, however, usually mobile cameras generally have relatively easy. It is in the slightly more challenging situations that S6 shows its class. A selfie in bad light displays that Samsung will treat the picture and the details are not completely clear. However, we see clearly that the image even when the are among the best in the test and even a picture in the dark with the main camera produces good results and releases especially in more light than most. Nokia old Lumia 1020, who was overbearing when it came, above all in the dark, is suddenly something such as the S6 can compete with. One gets the impression that Samsung has taken the criticism leveled against the company in recent years. I have been with someone who stood beside when I photographed with S6 cried but» wow what a camera «just after seeing the screen. It is clear that developments in the mobile photo continues to take great strides forward.
Good in the dark
Lacking physical camera button
Htc One M9
HTC is very interesting when it comes to the mobile phone’s camera.HTC has tried many different solutions but to really impress. However, the experiment is not missing. In HTC’s phones, we have seen the so-called ultrapixlarna, a technique which uses a larger image sensor for making a low resolution (4 megapixels) image that will have better light. In the former model of HTC One, we got to see two cameras on the back, but now, with the HTC One M9, it has instead left ultrapixelkameran to the front and put a regular, exclusive 20-camera on the back. The reason for this is, above all, to their folk crop» images and zoom «and it was one of ultrapixelkamerans major disadvantages, failed due to the poor resolution. Four megapixels in the front camera makes the HTC One M9 to one of the cameras that take most high-resolution selfies in this test. The images from this ultrapixelkameran belongs clearly to the better in the test but the sensitivity is perhaps not so superior that HTC had hoped. In daylight position themselves too selfiekamera M9 ‘s among the better in the test, and we look at the images from the rear main camera is color and detail clearly approved.
The area where the HTC One M9 have the hardest are in the dark.Where has our previous tests have shown that even its predecessor the HTC One M8 take better pictures in the dark, so in that sense means M9 deterioration and HTC have to struggle in today’s competition. Above all, we notice that the detail will suffer and zooms we see the most densely distributed.
What determines if a mobile camera is good today is not just the hardware, therefore the image sensor and the lens sitting in camera, but also largely software. On Mobile, we have ever had try not completely finished phones and then noticed clearly just how much you can accomplish with a software update before the phone then goes out in the store. In the United States, HTC has, at the time of writing, released an update of the software of the M9 which is said to improve its camera properties and it will in the future also to the Swedish phones. HTC has a long history of software updates after launch and it will be based on them not have too high hopes.
Better selfies in bad light

Huawei Ascend Mate 7
With Mate 7 enables Huawei’s entrance in the encounter with the largest phone. Mate is Huawei’s series with phablets and butting well currently with Huawei Ascend P7 to be the company’s best camera mobile, but Mate 7 was launched later by the two so it is the one that gets to make up with the competitors. Having such a large screen on a camera is an advantage especially for displaying images, but maybe a small disadvantage when it comes to have a camera that is easy to take with them as a whole. the phone feels well made and well thought out, designed, but the aluminum material is very soft and it won’t be long before we get the visible marks where that does not go away. The interface when it comes to the camera is relatively unadorned and in fact most of the options actually available in the menus usually survive without. The camera can focus on a moving object and follow it but we do not have a manual mode where you can affect the image more yourself.
When we look at the images from the camera so there is not much to complain about so long as we stick to the pictures in natural light.Color reproduction is good, as is the detail, but then does the type of pictures either no real challenge for a mobile camera today. More difficult is a picture in the dark with the Flash, but even those shots manage Mate 7 good without losing details in too strong light from photo lamp. The phone may be more difficult when we take a self portrait in dim light, while competitors either smooth face or presents an image with noise so the image from Mate 7 just flamed in any kind of serious noise which is not at all flattering to the person portrayed. Many of the phones have different degrees of beautification in which the phone can smooth out the skin right on them, but for this comparison, we have closed off all those features in all cameras in the test.
Good photo lamp
Dark pictures without Flash
Motorola Nexus 6
It is harder to make a good mobile camera than many think. It is also more difficult than what Google think, for even though they now have spit out a series of Nexus models generally been very well as phones, they have never succeeded with the camera. The actual phone has in Nexus-case everything from HTC and Samsung to LG and now Motorola made, but although the spread has the camera never been something to cheer for. The cause is difficult to figure out, but maybe it’s a combination of poorly designed software in the form of Google’s own kameraapp and priority on things other than just the camera when it comes to hardware.
In Nexus 6 as well as in other phones with Android, you can indeed download alternative camera apps, but we start in the test from the one that comes with the phone. In Nexus 6 cases, it is Google’s own kameraapp. What distinguishes it is above all the options are very limited and we may even think that the survey is flawed. The very smoothest tends to be if you simply and directly in the camera view may reach the most common settings and then with the press can get to the manual settings and experiment with the features they may not use as often. In Nexus kameraapp is all important settings hidden and such a simple task to switch from still to video recording will be unnecessarily complicated. You have to swipe from the edge to make even the most common options are visible. Although there is a striking feature for creating and sharing images in 360 degrees, but looking for manual settings for your regular still images looking for in vain.
Nexus 6 don’t really need be ashamed of their images, but it is still clear that it has to do with State-of-the-battle. Deficiencies in detail and color reproduction makes it difficult to compete and in the dark where many mobiles have it difficult can compete with the Nexus 6 is not the best.
Good without convincing
ZTE Blade S6
What primarily distinguishes manufacturer ZTE is the price. It is impressive that ZTE manages to do the same thing as the other great players do, but at a fraction of the price. In addition to making the others do cheaper to get even a couple of extra value with ZTE Blade S6 which is the company’s latest flagship phone. Here we find, for example, support for dual SIM card and because the phone is equipped with the latest version of Android, so are many of the features and the overall impression is equivalent to the larger established and much more expensive handsets from ZTE’s competitors. However, they have a lot to learn when it comes to the choice of materials and it’s undeniable that the ZTE Blade S6 is significantly cheaper than Samsung’s phone with the same name.About as clear is the class the difference when we look at the pictures. In daylight images are okay, but when we begin to challenge the camera so confesses the right color. The flowers in the Park becomes pitted and must not at all the same colour tone that actually all the other cameras are able to reproduce. Instead of shades from blue to white flowers in the picture from Blade S6 far more white and we lack a lot of the details. Even in darkness have ZTE Blade S6 problem. The rationale becomes unusually dark and detail richness the suffering. This is true in poor lighting, but also in the more enlightened indoor environment.
Okay in daylight
Worse at night
Lack of color fidelity and detail
This is a very old phone. Competitors have released new flagship, but for Nokia, or Microsoft as it now is, is still their main Lumia 930 camera phone, despite the fact that it was launched a year ago.Microsoft has promised that a new flagship to come during the year, but until then, they seem more bet on mobiles in the budget segment, and then seldom with particularly lavish cameras. Lumia 930 is thus the focus on, and here we find several welcome inheritance from Nokia’s previous camera mobiles. The interface of the camera is one of the absolute best and there is a combination of a simple Auto mode along with a more advanced professional mode where you can control everything from manual focus to shutter speed, white balance, and so on. The finest is that not even professional settings require you to understand what you are doing all the times. Instead warns the camera for example combines an ISO value with a shutter speed that will not give a good picture. In this area, Microsoft is very good, even if they got out, passed in other areas when it comes to camera phones.
Although Lumia 930 does not have a Xenon Flash as its predecessor, but a completely ordinary photo light so it shines up really good and gives nice colors when you use it. Darkness is something that Lumia 930 can handle well, so even the pictures we take in the dark without a photo light activated resulting mostly in good pictures. The leading position in mobile photo that Nokia had, however, lost. Especially weak are the Nokia 930 on self portraits. In the dark can handle the front camera not taking up enough light and the details and even in daylight has the problem. Then it becomes instead the color rendering of suffering as well as detail due to the exaggerated after processing that app does. Unfortunately also includes resolution of the selfiekameran to the worst.
If you are not an avid selfiefotograf, however, there is some potential in Nokia 930.
Outsiders — some contender
We let some of the students end up a little on the side. Nokia’s Lumia 1020 can certainly compete in a couple of areas, but it shows that it is almost two years old. Panasonic impresses not pictorial even though the phone looks more like a camera than a phone.
This phone is special in many ways. Most evident is surely just the camera, and it is also the one that makes us even though the phone was launched in the summer of 2013 and barely sold any longer still want it, unless that reference phone. Lumia 1020 is unique because it has a camera on 41 megapixels. If you think this is megapixelrejset to the extreme, you have both right and wrong. Really is enough perhaps five Megapixels for most needs. The idea with Lumia 1020 is instead that you can zoom and crop your pictures afterwards and the 41 megapixels in the sensor makes it possible. This is therefore a software way to replace a large and unwieldy physical lenses that would otherwise be option. In practice, this means that you can either get out of Lumia 1020 out high-resolution images in that most 34 megapixels or smaller images at five Megapixels, where all information from the big picture.
When Lumia 1020 was launched was the superior to all other mobiles. The Xenon Flash is still almost unique, but the sensitivity is not as impressive anymore, because the competition has gotten better. Lumia 1020 is like the sister model 930 very bad at self portrait and it shows that the front camera is not up to scratch entirely either in the dark or in the light. The interface of the camera is very good and it is easy both to quickly take a picture in auto mode and to understand the settings of an image with manual settings.
It raises the undeniable interest in this phone, whoever gets to see it.The main reactions tend to apply, on the one hand, if it really is a phone also and then how old it really is, for the design speaks more early 80s than something more modern and contemporary. Sadly this also in the interface, therefore, that Panasonic seems a little stuck in the past. The first impression is certainly not for everyone. CM1 In camera view counts I in auto mode to nearly 30 different little icons and it says itself that it can deter most. You need not bother about all, but it still feels as though Panasonic has adapted its interface bad for touch screen and not at all thought after what should be a priority for the best experience. These small icons, for example, is very small to fit on a touch screen in addition to that the numbers are so numerous that it becomes difficult to find the right.
Looking at the product as a whole stand Panasonic out in the crowd. We get the old version (4.4.4) of Android when most others deliver their phones with the latest and the format and weight is light years away from what its competitors offer. CM1 is both heavy and thick as edgy. The design is sturdy and rather to something like gardening equipment than to this type of electronics.
Possibly one might overlook this if the images from the camera were very much better than anything else on the market.
Good in the dark
Detail and daylight
Most mobiles are taking entirely acceptable pictures in daylight when conditions are simple, but what determines what is best is not just the number of megapixels. Although most cameras ‘ images look quite okay to find weaknesses once you examine the details. For example, it may be about color fidelity and detail. Often, this involves excessive post editing in cameras that make details flowing together so that the image looks like sloppy,. No camera is completely exempt from these weaknesses, but some do so clearly better than others.
Winner: Lumia 930, Lumia 1020 and Samsung Galaxy S6
Selfee and macro
If daylight pictures are at least acceptable to most of the participating phone shows self-portraits with front camera phones and a much clearer class difference. Above all in a little bit worse lighting provides many of the phones clean lousy photos with the wrong colors, poor sharpness and so hard after processing in order to try to save the situation that it can sometimes be difficult to discern the motive.
Winner: Apple Iphone 6 Plus One M9, HTC, LG G Flex 2, Samsung Galaxy S6
In the dark
The mobile phone has traditionally been very poor at letting you take good pictures in a little bit worse light. Today’s photo lamp rather than xenon flash standard in cameras but they have been significantly improved in the latest releases. The duplicate photo lamps with different hue as several mobiles have, for example, do much to give more natural skin tones in portraits. If you choose to take pictures in available light to avoid photo lamp sharp light, you have a much greater chance of being happy today than with mobile cameras with a couple of years.
Winner: Lumia 1020, Panasonic DMC-CM1, Samsung Galaxy S6
Interface and use
It is not easy to create menus on the camera so that everyone will be happy. We want the features we use the most will be available directly in sökarvyn so that we can quickly start the camera, select the function and press the. At the same time we want some more advanced settings should be readily available when we need to use them for finesse and the times you have time and desire to experiment a little more. From then on the phone pure hardware wise, be adapted for photography and then, of course, including a physical camera button which can simplify.
