Test: The Horological Smartwatch 2 FrÉDÉRique Constant

Frédérique Constant unveils new generation of smart luxury watch

Less than two years after the first model, Frédérique Constant unveils a new generation of connected Watch Swiss Made, the Horological Smartwatch.

It is March 2015 Frédérique Constant and Alpina unveiled the first draft of their Horological Smartwatch. The two Swiss Watchmakers could then bring a healthy dose of luxury and classicism to a priori product for lovers of new technologies.

A few months later, I was able to test the Horological Smartwatch of Alpina like Samsung Galaxy Gear featured on Insurancejust.com. A model that respects all the codes of Swiss watchmaking, but in version 2.0, with activity tracking and analysis of sleep. So when, a few weeks ago, Alpina and Frédérique Constant launched a new generation of smart watch, I immediately wanted to discover this evolution. So, that is the new “Swiss made” smartwatch?

The Use Of The Hands Combined With The Vibrator

Once again, modernity and innovation together classicism and tradition. For this new gem of a clockwork connected, Frédérique Constant has created “the first smartwatch in the world with dedicated functions are based on the use of needles and the vibrator”. That is not clear to you? Let me explain.

TheHorological Smartwatch 2.0 features a 42 mm diameter steel case. There is a classic analog dial (blue in the tested version, but which can also be black or silver) on the edge of which appear the icons representing the different functions connected to the watch. Either the follow-up activity, followed by sleep and-this is the big novelty-receiving calls and messages. We understand: you cannot directly call or send emails and SMS with your watch, but you can to be notified at any time. Thus, as soon as you receive a call or a message on your smartphone, the watch vibrates and its needles point both to the phone icon or the corresponding bubble icon.

For the monitoring of activity and sleep, the operation is similar: just press the Crown to see the needle hours indicated the percentage of activity or sleep on the day. The regulars of the first Horological Smartwatch will not be disoriented.

A New Application Of MMT-365

The mobile application that connects to the watch Frédérique Constant is all-new. But the MMT-365 app works exactly the same way as the old MotionX-365.

Easy to use (despite a few translation errors!), it allows to follow on a daily basis the number of not done, distance traveled and calories burned.Night, just drag the watch under the pillow or, better, to keep the wrist in order to discover then the duration of sleep and its different phases (light or deep sleep, awakening phase). An alarm can even be set so that you are awake at the best time to start the day off right.

The application can also allow you to program activity alerts : If you stand still too long, mount it will vibrate to entice you to move a little.

Finally, the other novelty of this Horological Smartwatch 2.0 is the ability to store and restore the data recorded by the watch on the Cloud. A good way to analyze all this long term or if you change your watch or smartphone… even if you have to be really sticklers about his lifestyle to want to find how many steps you have walked on February 27.

My Opinion On The FrÉDÉRique Constant Smartwatch Horological

With this new Horological Smartwatch, Frédérique Constant shows that we can propose a modern Smart Watch while maintaining a more traditional watchmaking DNA.

At the level of style, nothing to say: this watch is very (very) class. Set dial Arabic numerals and index sticks enjoys very finishes, what is found also in the leather strap-even if it is a bit rigid. Anyway, we got a real nice Swiss Watch, and it shows!

On the side of the connected features, they are basic but effective.Beyond the activity tracking, the alarm that forces you to move and the fact that the watch automatically adapts to the time zone of the place where you are handy. Last detail, and not the least: the Smartwatch Horological works with a battery and offers a range of more or less 2 years. So you won’t have to recharge every night!
As for the first model, so we are in the presence of a connected timepiecerather than a bunch of technology smartwatch. Maybe not like most of you geeks but should delight lovers of beautiful mechanical watch. As the price (795 euros for the steel version, 995 euros for the version steel plated rose gold) remains very honest for a Swiss watch of this quality.
