Test: Linksys Smart Wifi

With an app, Linksys make life easier for you and on the whole they manage quite well.

We have not directly used to test Wi-Fi routers here on Mobile. Mostly because many of them are by definition is not particularly mobile. But at the same time connect our phones and tablets to these widgets constantly and when they need taken care of in one way or another, it is often a lot easier to manage it via your mobile phone from the sofa than to sit down at the computer.

Depending on your own preferences and how modern your router is it can be everything from restarting when it feels a bit sleepy to manage guest network for some visitors, give priority to a game or Netflix on your network so that you can enjoy the laggfritt or simply strangle pages, posts or entire devices from accessing the network if it must be so.

Two schools
Because a router basically always handled through a Web browser, it isn’t any bigger role if you log in via a computer, the plate or the cell phone then every router with any kind of user friendliness in mind (read: not flashbaserat) has an interface that works to navigate via mobile devices. It is often involve a lot of zooming in and out, especially when using devices with little screen, but everything is there. At the same time, it is precisely that which can be a little daunting for beginners and often simply pretty awkward to have to dig among just all settings when in practice it is only a few that you actually use.
That is where the point of Linksys Smart Wifi comes in. Of course, it should be said that Linksys is hardly alone in this thing, but much like when we tested NAS devices for a year or so ago, we take it as a really good example of what actually is available among the units we use very often.

Simplicity
For this test, we set up a Linksys WRT1900AC, which is one of the company’s a little more well-equipped routers for individuals and small businesses, but the app works with most Linksys routers.
Are you the one who likes to have all settings on hand, you will almost always be disappointed at this sort of applications when they are always limited. but at the same time, it is a bit of the point where the right to pick up the most often used to simplify. The task can handle Smart Wifi of the galant as a few features such as parental controls, block and guest network is placed in a karusellgränssnitt in the app. A bunch of some more advanced data available in a sidebar, but on the whole, it is a little more everyday tasks presented easily in the app without having to think about some more advanced features of the router then they still only used on a few occasions.

At the same time, Smart Wifi is a function which is not really all apps of this type can boast, and that login through your router’s Web interface quite often are not capable of. When you run the basic settings for the router, you create a Linksys account that is used as your primary login to the router. With account of the site and app up and running, it doesn’t matter if you are connected to the current Wi-Fi network or if you are on vacation on the other side of the planet, it is possible to make settings in all cases. Now it is mostly when you are at home and the type of settings might need to be done, but it gives a certain satisfaction to know that you can keep track at home even when you’re not there.
It should perhaps be noted that well whether you can control a router via an app is not the most important issue when you want to upgrade your home network, but at the same time, it is these machines that often are connected and then forgotten until the trouble. In fact, there are a lot of useful information in these still substantially feature-packed machines that can bring a lot of everyday life.

In conclusion, then, when the entire text been about an app, how does the router then? In addition to that it is aesthetically pleasing enough to want to hide in the cellar storage room (which is a superb bad placement if you read our guide to better wifi at home), it works really well. Range and speed seems to be at the same level as other routers using 802 .11ac-technology, which is still really good compared to older versions.
